YIP 8.0 is on. Register and showcase your ideas
YIP 8.0 is the 2025-2026 edition of the Young Innovators Programme, a flagship initiative by the government of Kerala, India, to foster a culture of innovation among students. Organized by the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC), the program encourages students aged 13–35 to develop innovative products, services, and models to solve real-world problems.
Key features of YIP 8.0
- Encourages youth-led innovation: The program provides a structured platform for students to turn their creative ideas into tangible projects.
- Addresses real-world problems: Participants work to find innovative solutions for current challenges, which can include issues related to sustainable energy, healthcare access, and social needs.
- Provides mentorship and resources: Students receive guidance from expert mentors, participate in workshops, and get access to resources to refine and develop their ideas.
- Supports a knowledge-based economy: By fostering an innovation ecosystem, YIP 8.0 contributes to Kerala's transition to a knowledge-based society.
- Showcases talent: It gives students a platform to showcase their ideas and connect with industry experts and potential funding agencies.
The step-by-step process for students to register and begin their innovation journey is inferred from the program structure, focusing on team formation, idea submission, and the initial mandatory training.
The core process is managed through the official digital platform: yip.kerala.gov.in
Here is the step-by-step registration and initial process for students:
Phase 1: Preparation and Idea Registration
Step 1: Form a Team
Although the exact student team size is not explicitly listed in the provided pages of the brochure, the program is generally geared toward institution-based participation across four categories (High School, College, Medical/Professional, and ITIs)
Step 2: Access the Digital Platform
Navigate to the official Young Innovators Programme website, yip.kerala.gov.in, to find the dedicated registration link
Step 3: Submit Your Idea
You are required to submit your innovative idea, which can be in a Product Development, Social Good, or Research vertical
Phase 2: Initial Training and Validation (Post-Registration)
Once registered, you will immediately proceed to the first validation and learning stages:
Step 4: Complete the Stakeholder Survey Module
This is the first mandatory activity after registration and is essential to ensure your idea is relevant and useful
You must complete a short, 20-minute, self-administered online training module about the importance of talking to stakeholders
. The objective is to educate you on defining and understanding stakeholder pain points to effectively solve real-life problems
. This module is available in the program's app after registration
.
Step 5: Document and Submit the Stakeholder Survey
After the training module, you must physically approach and speak to stakeholders to understand their needs and validate your idea
Step 6: Attend the Foundation Workshop (Categories 1 & 2)
For students in Colleges, Universities, and High/Higher Secondary Schools (Categories 1 and 2)
This workshop focuses on the Fundamentals of Design Thinking
. It provides the basic tools required to define a problem and identify an appropriate solution for it
. A workbook will be provided to help you translate your learning into a refined idea
.
Following these steps, your team will proceed to the next selection rounds, such as the Innovation Congress (District Level) or Innovation Pre-Finale (Zonal Level), depending on your institution category
